Earlier this month, Belgium triumphs with 13 medals at European Games, securing two direct tickets to 2024 Paris Olympics! Boxer Oshin Derieuw will be the first Belgian female athlete to ever go to the Olympic Games.

Belgian athletes ended their journey at the third European Games in Krakow-Malopolska with triumph. Bagging two golds, five silvers, and six bronzes, our athletes displayed a diverse range of strength and skill.

Sarah Chaâri triumphed in the 62kg Taekwondo while Gianny De Leu dominated the 60kg Muay Thai category. Silver medals were earned by boxer Oshin Derieuw, the 3×3 Lions men’s basketball team, sprinter Rani Rosius, high jumper Thomas Carmoy, and Muay Thai athlete Axana Depypere. The European Games bear significance for athletes striving to qualify for the forthcoming Olympic Games. The BOIC therefore placed particular emphasis on the importance of the European Games in qualifying for next year's Olympic Games in Paris. Notably, in boxing, both Oshin Derieuw and Vasile Usturoi have now secured direct tickets to Paris 2024 Olympic Games, extending Belgium’s hope for Olympic glory.

Oshin Derieuw became the first female Belgian boxer ever to qualify for the Olympic Games. The last male Belgian boxer to receive this honour was Abdelkader Wahabi at the Barcelona OS 1992. The 36-year-old from Kuurne in West Flanders provides an emotional historical first. She recalls excitedly as she leaves the boxing ring:
